As part of the European Project DARE (‘Database and Assessment of Risks violent Extremists’), the NIFP closely works together with European member states in order to develop and maintain an international database of convicted terrorists.
Every European Member State has too few cases of violent extremists to allow strategic analyses and understanding of extremist risks and drivers. This lack of a database or dataset of risk characteristics of violent extremists across Member States has hampered effective and strategic European approaches to prevent, manage and counter violent extremism and terrorism.
Therefore, the NIFP develops a European database and dataset on violent extremists and terrorists. This database will be used to analyse and support the identification of the most critical risk factors of violent extremism. This has relevance for effective policy and professional judicial practice related to violent extremists and terrorists in Member States.
