Project TREC, tackling radicalisation and extremism in custodial agencies, is funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme (2014-2020).

TREC focusses on the further implementation of the VERA-2R in the Dutch prison and probation context.

By implementing a structured training programme, awareness and expertise is promoted on various levels in custodial agencies, such as prison guards, heads of security, and religious counsellors. This will promote a shared approach and improved exchange of risk information with early identification and adequate anticipation on signs of radicalisation in custodial institutions. This will optimize the exploitation of placement of identified extremists.

International exchange of knowledge is secured by cooperation between the Netherlands and Belgium and contact with Great Britain.
