The Violent Extremism Risk Assessment Version 2 Revised (VERA-2R) is developed for the individual assessment of the risk of persons inspired by ideologically motivated violence.
Risk-assessments regarding terrorism and violent extremism can have far-stretching consequences. On the one hand because it can prevent societal disruptive terrorist attacks. On the other hand, because it is a precursor for judicial responses to those suspected of terrorist acts. Both rely on public, legal and political scrutiny. Therefore, the assessments have to be done properly, and as transparantly possible.
The following sections outline a short history of the VERA-2R, its purposes, content, objectives and the required methodology.
