Best practices on how to deal with radicalization
On February 27, the Conference Radicalisation in Prisons took place, organised by the European Commission and the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU.
The conference provided a unique opportunity for judges, prosecutor’s, prison and probation staff and other experts to exchange best practices on how to deal with radicalization and extremism and the risk management issues involved.
It also offered opportunities for several project leaders to present their projects that are funded by the European Commission.
The conference was opened by EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, Věra Jourová. Julian King, Commissioner in charge of the Security Union, presented the closing speech.
Nils Duits, as project leader of EU funded project DARE, was one of the key-note speakers. He presented the objectives and challenges of the DARE project. Central topics were the development of an international database of convicted terrorists and the risk-assessment instrument VERA-2R.
DARE project member and VERA-2R co-trainer Maarten van Leyenhorst was one of the three instigators and moderators of the afternoon workshops.
