Between the 2nd and 4th of September, the NIFP hosted the annual intervision for VERA-2R trainers. Where an expert guest speaker was invited in 2025, for this year’s intervision the trainers favoured to focus on ingroup discussions and explorations.

Against the backdrop of the Rotterdam skyline, relevant developments in the field of violent extremism, risk assessment and potential improvements to the training were discussed with all seven European trainers.

Main themes were the use of the VERA-2R for various offender populations and age-groups and the exploration of possibilities to provide users of the VERA-2R with a certain structure or theory in their approach when developing a risk formulation.

In the next few months, Maarten van Leyenhorst will analyse all output that may lead to relevant developments in the international training material and in the instrument. Similar to the previous years, this year’s intervision has proven to be a very inspiring meeting and plans for the next sessions are already in progress.
