In 2022 a European study has been conducted on the interrater and intrarater reliability (De Bruin et al., 2022). Interrater reliability refers to the degree to which two or more observers independently score the same ratings for the feature that is being observed or measured. The results, based on the comparison of coded judicial files by two trained researchers, showed good to excellent agreement on the VERA-2R indicators, Structured Professional Risk judgments, and the additional indicators. The conclusion was that the VERA-2R can be reliably used across different raters.

Intrarater reliability refers to the consistency or agreement of a single rater or observer when making repeated assessments or observations of the same feature or phenomenon over time. The results showed good to excellent intrarater reliability for the VERA-2R indicators, the Structured Professional Risk judgments, and the additional indicators. This confirms that the VERA-2R provides consistent assessments of an individual's risk status over time.
